District 1
Considered as the heart of Ho Chi Minh City, District 1 is the
center for all financial, commercial, and administrative activities. It has
felt the effects of globalization and development most heavily and is also
regarded as a “sleepless district” where a great deal of entertainment keeps
you awake all night.
Commercial scene, with high-end stores like Louis Vuitton and
Marc Jacobs as well as restaurants and shops offering cuisines and goods from
around the world are found alongside expensive, upscale hotels such as The
Majestic or The Sheraton in the downtown.
Moreover, it is home to most of the city’s museums, tourist
attractions, historical sites and colonial buildings like Opera House, City
Hall, the Old Post Office, Notre dame Cathedral and Independence palace and
offers some of the highest living standards in the city with a range of
serviced apartment buildings. Rent here will be much more expensive than in
other districts. On the other hand, District 1 also caters to budget travelers
in the backpackers’ area of Pham Ngu Lao and Bui Vien. This is another busy
corner where tourists usually flock to its bars, pub, night-club, counter-fit
clothes shops and other services for foreigners.
Green parks and nice boulevards with big high trees mostly
planted about 100 years ago during the French colonial is another highlight of
the center.
Wandering around this area is not a bad choice to enjoy the city traffic and bustling life in Sai Gon.
